Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is located on the 1st floor between Diagnostic Imaging department and the Laboratory.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Ross Memorial Hospital was introduced in 1996 for those who have lung disease.

The program provides education, exercise, monitoring, and support for participants and their families.

Participants get together every Monday and Wednesday for a 12-week period. The program is funded by Ross Memorial, however, a $50 nominal fee is charged to cover the cost of handout materials.

Education

Education sessions are led by a multi-disciplinary health care team, which includes an internist, a physical therapist, a respiratory therapist, a nurse, a dietician, and a rehabilitation assistant.

Topics covered include lung function and disease, safe and beneficial exercise, healthy diets, medications, psychological factors, smoking cessation, energy conservation, travel tips, and infection control.

Exercise

Exercise sessions usually last for an hour and include warm-up exercises, aerobic activities, strengthening and stretching exercises, a cool-down, relaxation and breathing retraining.

Exercise programs are individualized and will guide participants towards continuing their exercises at home.

Monitoring

Monitoring involves the measurement of weight, body fat, waist measurement, oxygen saturation and heart rate during exercise, as well as a breathing questionnaire and depression screening.

Support

Support is provided throughout the program for participants and their families. We encourage patients to attend our ongoing exercise program the "Retreads" or to exercise in the community.

Registration

To participate in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, you must be referred by a physician. Ask your physician to forward their referral to the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Ross Memorial Hospital at 705-328-6094.

The cost of the program is fully covered by Ross Memorial Hospital. However, each participant is required to pay $75 for the cost of materials. Fees can be waived for those on disability or welfare.
