Lindsay, June 21, 2006

Ross Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment to its medical staff of Dr. Uosife Al fahd as an Orthopaedic Surgeon.  Dr. Al fahd will be working in the Department of Surgery, and has a strong background in advancements such as hip resurfacing surgery and navigated hip and knee surgery.

Dr. Al fahd, originally from Libya, recently completed a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma and lower limb reconstructive surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.  He completed his residency training in Orthopaedics at the University of Toronto and has published articles in the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.

Dr. Al fahd said the reasons he chose to practice in Kawartha Lakes were many.  “Ross Memorial Hospital was very attractive to me.  It is a wonderful facility and has great opportunities for my specialty,” said Al fahd.  “As a retirement community, the area has a high demand for orthopaedic surgery and I look forward to getting started.”

According to Anthony Vines, President & CEO of Ross Memorial Hospital, the Board of Governors, physicians and administration were all involved in this recruitment effort.  “It is important, especially with our aging and growing population, that we are able to meet the increasing medical needs of our patients. Through the addition of Dr. Al fahd, the Hospital’s Medical Specialist Recruitment Program has again been successful in bringing a highly skilled and qualified medical professional to serve the people of the City of Kawartha Lakes.”

Dr. Al fahd is married with two children and their family is expecting a third child over the summer.  Coming to Lindsay to raise their family really appealed to them.  “My wife and I really wanted to raise our children outside of Toronto.  When I visited this area, we liked the green open spaces and it was very easy to see that this would be a great place for our family.”

Dr. Al fahd will be working in both Toronto and Lindsay over the coming weeks.  However, he will officially open an office in Lindsay and begin his practice full-time here in August.
