A Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) increases the efficiency of an imaging department by having a computer system dedicated to the storage, retrieval, distribution and display of diagnostic images. A patient’s entire file is easily accessed for diagnostic reporting and clinical review.
PACS was first implemented at Ross Memorial Hospital when the CT scanner was installed in 2001. In 2002, the first digital room was installed in the X-ray division. Ultrasound connected to PACS in 2003. In 2005, the rest of the X-ray division went completely filmless. Today, the Department is now 95% digital.
