RMH Staff Show Exceptional Commitment to Patients During Power Disruption PDF  | Print |
Lindsay, June 13, 2005

Ross Memorial Hospital staff faced some challenges today as a result of today’s Hydro One power disruption. However, with some minor adjustments, staff quickly responded and the impact on our patients was mitigated.

Most affected was the surgery department as the operating rooms were not functional. All elective surgeries for today have been cancelled, however, staff are already working with patients to ensure that they will be rescheduled as soon as possible by the surgical team.

Also affected today were endoscopy procedures. They were also cancelled for the day, and mammograms were cancelled this morning but are now proceeding as scheduled.

Other adjustments were made to comfort patients as a result of the heat such as ensuring that plenty of icewater and fans were available where they were needed.

“On behalf of the Board of Governors and Administration, I would like to convey a special thank you to all of our night staff who quickly responded to the situation and hadled it exceptionally well, said Hospital President & CEO Anthony Vines. “I would also like to thank all staff, including those who were called in, or arrived earlier than scheduled to assist with the situation, for their teamwork and outstanding efforts to care for our patients, during extra-ordinary circumstances this morning.”

Essential hospital services were provided through the use of a backup generator from approximately 3:30 a.m. until approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning. Although power has been restored to the Hospital, staff continue to conduct tests on all equipment to ensure that it has not been affected by the disruption.
