Lindsay, April 21, 2005
The Eye Bank of Canada has awarded Ross Memorial Hospital with a certificate of Distinguished Service. It recognizes the outstanding dedication and commitment of the facility to the eye donor program of Ontario.
According to Linda Sharpen, Manager of the Eye Bank of Canada (Ontario Division), RMH was one of the top eye donor centres in the province of Ontario for the year 2004 and congratulates the staff for their accomplishment. “The dedication and commitment of the administration and the staff in the eye donor program is gratefully acknowledged and recognized not only by the Eye Bank of Canada (Ontario Division) but also by those who you have helped. Thank you very much.” Dr Hudson Giang, Pathologist at Ross Memorial leads the eye donor program at the hospital. “I am pleased to accept this award on behalf of Ross Memorial Hospital staff and physicians,” says Dr. Giang. “I know that the benefit of the eye donor program is not only for the corneal transplant recipients but it also extends to the donor families who derive comfort from the knowledge that some good has come from their tragedy.” In 2005, the Eye Bank of Canada is celebrating 50 years of service to Ontario residents. The Eye Bank receives and processes donated human eyes for corneal transplant and scleral graft surgeries. The Eye Bank of Canada is hoping to increase donations in order to shrink current waiting lists from years to just a few months.
The announcement came as part of the celebrations in recognition of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week April 17-23. |
