RMH Rated in the “Top 4” in Ontario PDF  | Print |
Lindsay, November 4, 2004

Today, Anthony Vines, Ross Memorial Hospital President and CEO announced that the Ross is ranked as one of only 4 hospitals considered to be “top performers”.

RMH believes in being accountable to our community and was delighted to act as enthusiastic participants in this voluntary and independent Hospital Report Card process, conducted through the University of Toronto. The Hospital Report is an on-going attempt to assess, and ultimately, improve hospital performance in Ontario.

These reports have a number of objectives, but one of the main reasons this study was developed was to assure public accountability. The reports provide a snapshot of Ontario’s hospital system. In addition, they give the public a better understanding of how their local community hospital is performing.

This process involved RMH participation in the largest voluntary patient satisfaction survey in North America, with over 1,000 of their inpatients and Emergency patients randomly surveyed by an external firm.

“We have participated in this process for a number of years, and following this year’s survey we were contacted by the researchers from the University of Toronto,” says Vines. “They had been tracking our report cards and discovered that we were consistently identified as one of the top performing hospitals.”

Therefore, the Hospital Report researchers asked RMH to provide further information and conducted interviews with key hospital employees to help verify their findings.

“I am very proud to announce today, that as a result of this study, we have been confirmed as being one of only 4 hospitals in Ontario to be considered as “top performing hospitals,” added Vines. “This designation means that RMH has scored consistently high in each of the Hospital Report Card areas over the past three reports. It also means that we are one of the top 4 hospitals overall in Ontario – not just compared to other hospitals in our category.”

“What is most important about this achievement is that it is a remarkable tribute to all of our staff who, together with other members of the Ross Team, including physicians and volunteers, are the reason this hospital has the reputation it has with our peers and more importantly, with the community we serve,” says Vines.
