Ross Memorial Hospital Changes Service to Lab Outpatient Department PDF  | Print |
Lindsay, July 14, 2004

Effective Wednesday July 14, 2004, the hospital laboratory out patient department will be open Wednesdays ONLY from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm for patients requiring routine out patient blood work and/or ECG.

Those attending hospital clinics (e.g. pre-operative assessment, diabetic program) may have their lab work done Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Where else can I go for these services?

Lindsay is fortunate to have two community laboratories available to provide OHIP insured outpatient tests at no cost to residents:

MDS Lab
86 Angeline St S
Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm

Canadian Medical Laboratories
65 Angeline St N
Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:00am - 5:00pm
Wed, Fri 8:00am - 4:00pm

You are free to visit the following locations provided that you have first obtained an OHIP laboratory requisition from a physician licensed in Ontario.
Why is the Hospital making these service changes?

As a Hospital laboratory, our key client groups are our hospital inpatients, hospital clinic and ER patients. Given the limited resources available and in order to better serve the needs of our Hospital patients, we are making the above service changes.

While we regret any inconvenience that this action may cause for members of the community, it is being implemented at this time as part of an effort to limit the magnitude of the hospital’s current operating deficit. For the past 3 years, the hospital incurred annual operating deficits and like many hospitals across the country, we are being challenged to find new ways to generate revenue in order to reduce our dependence on government funding, while simultaneously reducing costs so that limited resources can be stretched as far as possible.

An area that has been identified as a priority for these efforts is the reduction of any duplication of services with other organizations in the community. Given the availability of OHIP insured community laboratories, the Hospital simply cannot afford to duplicate services that are already being provided.
