Ross Memorial Hospital Celebrates Nurses Week May 10-16 PDF  | Print |
Lindsay, May 7, 2004

This year, Nursing Week will be celebrated from May 10-14 in Ontario. This is seen by Ross Memorial Hospital as a week to honour the accomplishments and dedication of the nursing profession.

This year’s theme is “Nursing: Knowledge and Commitment at Work,” reflecting the current reality for nurses today. Our nurses are knowledgeable workers who are dealing with increasingly complex technology, and issues in the workplace.

This theme has been followed closely by Ross Memorial Hospital as it has recently received approval to be a Designated Regional Access Centre offering post diploma courses from Ryerson University toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The offering currently has 26 students taking part, half of which are current staff of the Hospital.

“The Designation from Ryerson gives us a great opportunity to help nurses advance their education without having to travel to the city,” said Diane Barkey, Director of the Medical and Intensive Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital. “Having the courses begin in May is a great way to highlight Nurses Week.”

Bonnie Eagle, Vice President of Patient Care/Chief Nursing Officer will be addressing the nursing staff at a breakfast to kick off the week’s activities. “This week is about celebrating not only the achievements of the nursing profession, but it is also an opportunity to recognize our staff for their dedication to the hospital and our community.”

There are a number of special activities planned for nurses at the Ross including a breakfast, lunchtime draws and a uniform sale.
