On Thursday, December 4, Ross Memorial Hospital Community Counselling Services will host the 11th annual Christmas Dinner for individuals with mental illness and their families. This traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be held at the Moose Lodge. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. This is the fifth year that the Lodge is sponsoring the event.

The evening will also feature draws and entertainment. This year’s entertainment highlight will be Maxwell & Ta-dah!…The Magically Hip – Canada’s finest husband and wife team of magicians. The Magically Hip has been performing mystifying illusions combining comedy, magic, and audience participation worldwide for nearly a decade. In 1999, they were voted “Magicians of the Year” by the International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 302.

For the fourth year in a row, Carol Bradford, who is a volunteer with Ross Memorial, will play Christmas carols on the piano during dinner.

There is no charge to attend this Christmas celebration, thanks to the generous donations from many community organizations, including the Moose Lodge, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation, Sobey’s (Fenelon Falls), The Master’s Touch, McDonald’s, ClearView Window Cleaning, M&M Meat Shops, Wendy’s, Burger King, WalMart, Video King, Pita Pit, Neabour’s Restaurant, KFC, The Royal Bank, TD Bank, Highstone Masonry, Victoria Drug Mart, PharmaPlus, and The Magically Hip!

Molly McCrea, Director, Community Counselling Services, is touched by the continued kindness and generosity of the community. “We are so appreciative of everyone who has contributed to this special dinner for people with mental illness, especially our staff who dedicate many hours towards making this a memorable evening. We are also very grateful to our sponsors for supporting this special event. This year, we are very excited to have The Magically Hip as our entertainment performing illusions and magic for our dinner guests.”

The response from clients and their families has been overwhelming and everyone is excited about celebrating the season among family and friends. Approximately 140 people attend the dinner each year.
