RMH Working to Conserve Energy PDF  | Print |
Lindsay, August 19, 2003

As the province of Ontario begins to recuperate from this weekend’s power outages, Ross Memorial Hospital continues to do its part to conserve energy.

In addition to its current practices (i.e. turning lights out after hours in non-patient care areas and turning off cooling systems and computers in all office areas at the end of the business day), Ross Memorial Hospital is taking the following energy saving measures:

  • Lighting levels in other areas of the Hospital will be reduced or turned off,
    where possible.
  • Everyone is being encouraged to avoid the elevators and use the stairs.
  • Adjustments are being made to thermostats to conserve energy.
  • Staff are being instructed to turn off non-essential items and to minimize
the use of photocopiers and fax machines.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation on a regular basis,” explains Anthony Vines, President/CEO, Ross Memorial Hospital. “Throughout the situation last Friday, our first priority, as always, was the safety of our patients. Our staff and physicians worked to ensure that patients were cared for and comfortable. Everyone was prepared in the event that the situation continued and worsened. Currently, all Hospital programs and services are running at normal operating levels. We will continue to do our part to conserve energy and resources; and should the situation change, we will be ready to respond accordingly.”
