Lindsay, May 20, 2003
Last year, the TD Bank Financial Group in Lindsay generously pledged a $30,000 TD Grant in Medical Excellence, designated to Nursing Skills and Education, to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation. Each year for the next five years, the Foundation will receive $6,000, to be disbursed to a nurse or nurses to upgrade their skills through an educational course or conference. This year the Foundation presented $1,000 to six nurses to help them complete an educational course or conference of their choice. “We are excited and proud to support the caregivers at Ross Memorial Hospital. It is because of those who deliver such excellent care that the Ross has such a great reputation,” says Tony Orecchio, Manager, TD Canada Trust, Lindsay, Omemee, Bethany. “The generosity of so many people and corporations has made the expansion of the Hospital’s facilities a reality. At TD, we applaud the continued dedication of the nurses, doctors, staff and volunteers at the Ross.”
“We are truly appreciative of the donation from TD Bank towards nursing excellence,” says John Bennett, Chair, Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. “We have always believed that Ross Memorial is about the people who provide the care, who time and again go above and beyond. This will help some of our nurses achieve their personal career goals.”
Eligible candidates provided a selection committee with written evidence confirming their enrolment in a program, and a letter stating why they would be better able to serve their community with the additional training they would receive. Recipients of the Grant must be willing to make a commitment to Ross Memorial and continue their work at the Hospital for two years following successful completion of their program. This year, the Foundation distributed the Grant to six staff members. Lori Wires, Dawn Wood, Bonnie Montgomery and Carmen Brown each received $1,000 to assist them in the RPN to RN program. Gail Kennedy received $1,000 to aid her in obtaining a Bachelor of Science (Medical Imaging) degree, and Shirley Sabovitch received $1,000 to help her complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. “I have Ross Memorial Hospital and TD Bank to thank for the opportunity to help my career goal become a reality,” says Carmen Brown. “The generosity of the TD Grant will help ease the financial constraint of working toward my degree in Medical Imaging,” says Gail Kennedy. “Everyone, including the patients, benefit from the support in continuing education. The assistance is greatly appreciated.” The TD Bank Financial Group hopes to attract and retain health care professionals by providing funding for research, education and career development through the TD Grant in Medical Excellence. “We realize the importance of investing in people and helping nurses and caregivers maintain and upgrade their skills and education,” says Mr. Orecchio. |
