Lindsay, October 1, 2002

Ross Memorial Hospital, in partnership with George Brown College, is delighted to announce the launch of an RPN to RN Bridging Program. This program, which began on September 23rd, will provide an opportunity for Registered Practical Nurses to acquire the qualifications of Registered Nurse. Completion date for the program is July 2004.

The program was made available to RPNs within the City of Kawartha Lakes and surrounding areas. There are 50 students in the program, 22 of which are RPNs from Ross Memorial Hospital. Students have a variety of experience, ranging from new RPN graduates to those who have been working as an RPN for up to 25 years.

Classes are being taught by local teachers from the City of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, Northumberland and Haliburton. Classes are being held at the Queen Street United Church
Annex in Lindsay.

The RPN to RN Bridging Program was developed and implemented by the Clinical and Staff Education Department at Ross Memorial. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Registered Practical Nurses within the community to upgrade their skills with the goal of graduating as a Registered Nurse," says Sheryl Wallis, Education Co-ordinator, Ross Memorial Hospital. "The course will be completed in time for the opening of the expanded Ross Memorial, which will provide for potential job placements at the Hospital. We're very excited about the program.
We have full support from the Hospital Administration. George Brown has been excellent to work with; and we thank the Queen Street United Church for helping us out with the space."
