February 9, 2006 - Lindsay, Ontario
Gerald Harris, President of the Lindsay Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, today presented the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation with the funds needed to purchase a new Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine for the surgical program.
Funds were received from a $5000 grant through the Ontario Command Branches and Ladies' Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation. This is a registered charity that is a partnership of the branches of the Royal Canadian Legion and their Auxiliaries in Ontario Command. Hospitals, clinics, fire departments, and other not-for-profit organizations involved in health care may make applications to them for funding. Branches and auxiliaries, through poppy tagging and activities such as bingo, break-open tickets, raffles and clubhouse operations fund the foundation. Through their collective strength, they are able to fund projects, which are normally beyond the means of individual branches. CPM machines are most beneficial after orthopedic surgery to work joints that cannot bear weight. This stimulation promotes healing and increased strength for the joint, decreases the likelihood of stiffening, deterioration, and complications, and shortens the period of hospitalization and rehabilitation for the patient.
On hand to accept the donation is Erin Coons, Executive Director of the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation and Gary Sims, Surgical Program Director. |
