Today, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation announced that their annual Christmas fundraising campaign for much needed medical equipment has reached its target. This year’s campaign will assist the Hospital in purchasing equipment for their critical care program, which consists of the Emergency department, Intensive Care Unit and Medical Inpatient Unit.
Dr. Bert Lauwers, Clinical Director of the Critical Care program, and an ER physician, assisted the Foundation with this appeal to replace a blood gas analyzer and a ventilator, as well as purchase a portable ultrasound for the emergency department. According to Dr. Lauwers, “A blood gas analyzer decreases the turnaround time for blood samples, affording clinicians the ability to make more rapid medical decisions, while ventilators are vital tools in caring for our most critically ill patients. A portable ultrasound machine located within the Emergency department will allow for rapid and convenient access to the diagnostic information needed for life-threatening injuries.” In December, Dr. Bert Lauwers and RMH volunteer Ralph Griffin, kicked off the campaign with donations of their own, gratefully accepted by Foundation Executive Director Erin Coons. Ralph Griffin had a very special task for this campaign – he decorated the Christmas trees in the lobby with the ornaments the Foundation receives from donors. Dr. Lauwers and Ralph Griffin took the opportunity today to test some of the new equipment. They had a portable ultrasound machine on hand, which will be a welcome addition to the emergency department. “The choice that people have made to support our local hospital and assist us in the purchase of new Critical Care equipment is gratefully appreciated by both staff and patients at the Ross,” added Foundation Executive Director Erin Coons. “This equipment is an important addition to our new and expanded facility, and we are very pleased to have the support of so many in the community.”
