October 7, 2002 - Lindsay, Ontario Recently, Eric Dean, Executive Director of the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation received a Fellow designation from the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP). This is the highest accreditation award offered by the AHP and is awarded through a stringent application process, recognizing years of service in the industry of health care fundraising, professional results, and continuing education credits. There is also a grueling examination process for those who qualify to challenge the exam. Eric wrote his exams in January of this year and is excited to now be one of only 12 Fellows in all of Canada."I'm very pleased to have received the FAHP because it is a validation by peers and colleagues," says Eric Dean. "The application and study process to challenge the exam were a tremendous amount of work but each item of study was also beneficial to the Foundation's work locally. We have incorporated many practices directly from the studies required for the Fellows exam. When I look at the caliber of individuals who currently hold the designation in Canada, I am really honoured to hold this accreditation." Eric joined the Ross Memorial family in 1991, becoming the first Executive Director of the Foundation. Since then, the Foundation has raised more than $16.5 million in donations in addition to about $3 million in pledges still being collected from the recent Caring for Tomorrow campaign, which surpassed $7 million in local gifts and pledges. "The credit for these results goes to an extremely generous and responsive community, a hospital with an excellent reputation for care and compassion, and an incredibly devoted team of volunteers and Board members committed to the mission of Ross Memorial Hospital," says Eric. As well, Eric serves on the National Board, as the Ontario representative, of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, an international association with 3,000 members who raise funds for hospitals and health organizations. In this role, he works closely with other Association members in Ontario and leads the charge on legislative issues in Ontario. Currently, he is working with a task force responding to privacy legislation being reviewed by the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services. Eric, along with other colleagues, recently met with Roy Romanow, in a consultation on the "Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada", where Eric spoke on behalf of Ontario fundraisers regarding the impact of philanthropy and voluntarism on our health care system.
Eric is also actively involved with the Lindsay Rotary Club (where he is a Past President and current Secretary) and the Cambridge United Church in Lindsay. |
