In 2002, TD Canada Trust (Lindsay) generously pledged a $30,000 TD Grant in Medical Excellence to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation. Each year, the Foundation receives $6,000 to be disbursed to medical staff to upgrade their skills through an educational course or conference.
“We are truly appreciative of the donation from TD Bank towards medical excellence,” says Erin Coons, Executive Director Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We have always believed that Ross Memorial is about the people who provide the care, who time and again go above and beyond. This will help some of our staff achieve their personal career goals.” Eligible candidates provided a selection committee with written evidence confirming their enrolment in a program, and a letter stating why they would be better able to serve their community with the additional training they would receive. Recipients of the Grant must be willing to make a commitment to Ross Memorial and continue their work at the Hospital for two years following successful completion of their program. This year, the Foundation distributed the $1000 grant to six staff members. Amanda Marshall and Amy Pruett are working toward an integrated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner certificate. Both currently work as RNs in the Emergency Department. Karen Callaghan is enrolled in part-time studies to acquire her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a full-time case manager within RMH, for the Access Centre and also works as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. Susan Wynne is completing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing along with a Certificate in Leadership Management in Nursing. She is also looking to pursue the Nurse Practitioner & Masters of Nursing programs through Athabasca University. Susan works as a RN in the Intensive Care Unit. Veronica Nelson and Gail Kennedy are working toward their Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging through Charles Stuart University in Australia. Both work in the Diagnostic Imaging Department as Medical Registered Technologists. TD Canada Trust hopes to attract and retain health care professionals by providing funding for research, education and career development through the TD Grant in Medical Excellence. |
