At the 2006 Medical Staff Appreciation ceremony today at Ross Memorial Hospital, physicians were recognized for their years of service, dedication and commitment to Ross Memorial Hospital.

However, this year, the Victoria County Medical Society took the opportunity to recognize the commitment and dedication of a local resident to health care in our community.  

Dominic Fox of Lindsay was awarded the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Community Service Award by Victoria County Medical Society member Dr. Peter Petrosoniak and OMA Representative Dr. John Ludwig.   Mr. Fox was presented with a plaque from the OMA commemorating his commitment to local health care.

The Community Service Award is open only to non-physicians who have made a significant contribution to the health and welfare of the people of a local community as defined by: involvement in community health and public welfare, including length of involvement, roles fulfilled and personal achievements.

Nominations are made by the local branch society or district association executive and sent to the OMA.  The OMA Board of Directors reviews the nominations and has final approval regarding the awards.  Mr. Fox was nominated for this award by two local physicians, Dr. Peter Petrosoniak and Dr. Ralph Manmohansingh. 

The nomination for Mr. Fox outlined his role in local health care through his contributions in support of the success of Ross Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Fox has served as Chair of the Hospital’s Board of Governors, and has also served on the Hospital’s Foundation Board.  Mr. Fox continues his support of the Foundation Board and is currently serving his third year as Co-Chair of the Major Gifts and Planned Giving Committee.  

The nomination included comments such as “Mr. Fox has a sincere passion for health care.  His leadership and involvement in many aspects of local health care allows those in the medical profession to continually improve patient care in our community.”
