Lindsay, December 5, 2006

Today, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation kicked off their annual Christmas fundraising campaign for much needed medical equipment.  This year’s campaign will assist the Hospital in purchasing an echocardiogram machine, important equipment for diagnosing and treating patients with heart disease.

Dr. David Kazhila, Chief of Internal Medicine is assisting the Foundation with this campaign and believes that in order to better serve our growing number of patients, physicians and staff need state-of- the-art equipment.

“An echocardiogram machine is a vital tool of investigating, diagnosing and treating heart disease.  Without it, physicians have limited understanding of how the heart is functioning,” said Dr. Kazhila.  “This test assesses the structure and functioning of the heart and allows physicians to determine a diagnosis and tailor the right treatment for the patient.”

He adds, “The improvements in echocardiogram technology are exciting, and I believe that our patients deserve to have the latest technology right here, at the Ross.”

Dr. David Kazhila and Hospital volunteer Ralph Griffin, were on hand to kick off the campaign.  Ralph Griffin has a very special task for this campaign – he decorates the Christmas trees in the lobby with the ornaments the Foundation receives from donors.

“We enclose an ornament with our letter that donors can sign and return with their gift. It is then displayed on trees in our main lobby over the holidays,” says Foundation Executive Director Erin Coons. “This year, we are also encouraging others to celebrate the season by making a donation on behalf of a friend or loved one.  Then, donors can use the attached card to let that person know about the gift they have made in their honour this Christmas.”

The goal of this year’s campaign is $140,000.  For more information or to submit a donation, contact the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation at (705) 328-6146 or mail to 10 Angeline St N, Lindsay, ON, K9V 4M8.
