Lindsay, February 20, 2007
Tom Ritchie, President of the Lindsay Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, today presented the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation with the funds needed to purchase a new pressure relief mattress for the surgical program. Funds were received from a $4000 grant through the Ontario Command Branches and Ladies' Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation. This is a registered charity that is a partnership of the branches of the Royal Canadian Legion and their Auxiliaries in Ontario Command. Hospitals, clinics, fire departments, and other not-for-profit organizations involved in health care may make applications to them for funding. Branches and auxiliaries, through poppy tagging and activities such as bingo, break-open tickets, raffles and clubhouse operations fund the foundation. Through their collective strength, they are able to fund projects, which are normally beyond the means of individual branches. Pressure relief mattresses are most beneficial after surgery as they continually move air under the pressure points on different parts of the body. That means that one area is not feeling more pressure than another. Relieving pressure and preventing pressure wounds all help to aid in the healing process. On hand to accept the donation is Erin Coons, Executive Director of the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation and Gary Sims, Surgical Program Director. -30-
