Lindsay, August 2, 2007
The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to accept a donation of $2,551.60 from the OPP Offender Transport Unit based at the Central East Correction Centre in Lindsay. These funds will help the Foundation reach its Spring Appeal goal of $100,000. The money will be used to buy specialized equipment for the permanent Dialysis Unit.
The donation is made in memory of Special Constable Grant Henshall, who passed away from kidney disease on March 31, 2006. Henshall’s colleagues with the OPP Offender Transport Unit held a baseball tournament to raise the money. Fourteen teams played in the tournament at Wilson Fields on June 23rd. It was the second Grant Henshall Memorial Baseball Tournament. Last year, the money raised from the tournament was put into an education fund for Henshall’s grandchild.
Grant Henshall was a police officer in Toronto for 26 years before retiring to this area. He joined the OPP Offender Transport Unit in 2002. He had suffered from kidney disease for several years, travelling to Whitby for his dialysis treatments.
