Paddles Up! The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation salutes the hard work of the Dragonflies Dragon Boat team as it accepts the Dragonflies’ donation for $28,003.25. The Foundation’s Executive Director, Erin Coons, accepted the cheque from Dragonflies crew members at the Riverwood Park Campgrounds, where the team trains.

On June 23rd, the Dragonflies hosted the third annual Dragon Boat Festival in Port Perry. 1100 paddlers on 47 teams participated, raising $131,779.43 in pledges. Those funds are used to promote breast cancer awareness and support cancer treatment and diagnosis at hospitals in Lindsay, Oshawa, Uxbridge and Port Perry.

In the past, donations from the Dragonflies have helped the Ross Memorial Hospital purchase a sentinel node machine and a mammoviewer. This latest donation will help the Hospital replace its mammography unit with an updated, digital version in roughly two years’ time.

The Dragonflies is a group of 52 breast cancer survivors and supporters from the City of Kawartha Lakes, Port Perry, Uxbridge, and surrounding areas.
