Lindsay, August 20, 2008
The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation is thrilled to receive a third donation from the Order of the Eastern Star, Coronation Chapter #218 for the "On the Horizon" Dialysis campaign. Today, Worthy Matron Joyce Pounds and Worthy Patron Gordon Henry presented Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation, with a cheque for $3950. Over the past three years, the Order has donated $10,000 to the local dialysis effort.
Bringing these vital services close to home is a cause close to Joyce Pounds' heart. "I lost my husband to kidney disease last year. He had to travel to Peterborough to get his dialysis treatments."
Pounds says the support for the dialysis campaign is a Chapter effort. She is the third Worthy Matron of the Coronation Chapter to support the dialysis campaign as several members and their spouses have been touched by kidney disease. "We all think it's a great cause. This is one of the best things to happen in Lindsay."
The Chapter raises funds by holding barbecues and draws. There are 76 members of the Coronation Chapter #218, who live in Lindsay and the surrounding district. The Order of the Eastern Star is comprised of both men and women, with links to the Masons. The Order was created by Master Mason Dr. Robert Morris in 1867. Since that time the fraternal organization has been dedicated to improving its home communities.
