The Ross Memorial Hospital celebrated its most dedicated employees today, during the annual Long Service-James Ross Awards ceremony. A total of 145 employees were recognized for their commitment and outstanding initiative.
President and CEO of the Ross Memorial Hospital, Brian Payne says there are many reasons why hospital staff can be proud to be in this ‘business'. "We're in the business of helping people with something that matters a great deal to people. People value their health and they value public healthcare. How many other career choices could you have made that would have a greater affect on people?"
"We can be proud of the kind of work we do, but I'm also proud of the way we do our work," said Payne. "We really do provide excellent care here. Our staff is committed and caring and friendly ... thank you to each one who plays a part in delivering this service to our community."
119 employees are celebrating milestone anniversaries at the Ross this year, and 10 employees have reached 35 years of service. John Fox, Chair of the RMH Board of Governors, offered his congratulations on behalf of the community.
"Whether you've been an employee of the Ross for five years or thirty-five years, you should be extremely proud of the role you've played and the service you've provided this community. I want you to know that it's appreciated. I know this for a fact, because when I'm at work, I hear people talking about the Ross. When I'm out in the community, I hear people say how lucky we are to have such a great hospital. They're right, although luck doesn't have as much to do with it as extraordinary effort."

Following the Long Service Awards, the James Ross Awards of Excellence were presented to six individuals and one team. The James Ross Award winners are nominated by their peers for their outstanding commitment and motivation. The 2008 recipients are: Merilyn Junkin (RN/RPN), Diane Trafford (Paramedical), Chris English (Support Services), Jodi Dunn (Administrative), Dr. Les Summers (Physician) and Marg McGill (Auxiliary).
The 2008 James Ross Team Award recognizes a group which has demonstrated excellence while overcoming challenges, making a positive impact in the Hospital and the community. This award was presented to the 20 members of the Dialysis Department. The nomination for the Dialysis team included the following statements:
"There was a tremendous amount of time and effort spent on the planning and development of the temporary unit. Once in operation, the staff worked together to provide the patients with quality care in a very "space challenged" environment ... As the planning moved forward for the permanent unit, there were again countless hours spent on planning for every possible detail. The Dialysis Team is deserving of the James Ross Award for its ongoing caring and dedication in assisting to make the vision of a permanent Dialysis Unit a reality. All team members have proven to be "exceptional people committed to providing exceptional care".
