Lindsay, July 23, 2009
The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to accept a donation of $1703.10 from the OPP Offender Transport Unit based at the Central East Correction Centre in Lindsay. Today, Lacey McArthur and Tammy Kazimer made the presentation to Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation. The funds will be directed to the Ross Memorial Hospital's new Dialysis Unit.
The donation is made in memory of Special Constable Grant Henshall, who passed away from kidney disease in 2006. Since then, Henshall's colleagues with the OPP Offender Transport Unit have held an annual baseball tournament to raise funds. The first year, a donation was made to Henshall's family. For the past two years, the group has donated the proceeds to the Hospital to help support local dialysis services. This year, the tournament held on June 20th was followed with a benefit dance.
Grant Henshall was a police officer in Toronto for 26 years before retiring to this area. He joined the OPP Offender Transport Unit in 2002. He had suffered from kidney disease for several years, travelling to Whitby for his dialysis treatments.
