Build a Legacy

A Gift in Your Will

What will Your Legacy Be?

Ross Memorial Hospital was originally founded by a donation and it continues to be an exceptional community hospital with the help of caring donors like you. Some give because of a personal experience or because they want to give back, others want to make a difference.

When you choose to give a gift in your will, you are continuing your own legacy of caring. The Foundation is very grateful to be part of this legacy and takes great care to ensure legacy gifts address priority needs while keeping with the wishes of the donor.

Whether you are gathering information, considering a gift in your will or have already begun drafting your will, we will assist you or your advisors in any way that we can.

We will provide you with the information that best meets your situation and goals, such as: areas of need and future projects, sample bequest wording, legacy gift recognition and donor walls, making a gift of life insurance, creating an endowment.

Gifts in Memory

Gifts in Memory

When we lose someone dear to us, it can be comforting to share stories of happy times, and to remember the things that made our loved ones so special. Often, we want to do something special in their memory.

With the kind cooperation of local funeral homes, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation’s memorial giving program allows family and friends to commemorate the lives that have touched them.

When you give a gift to Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation in memory of a loved one, you may choose to direct your gift to one of our programs or campaigns that best reflects the wishes of the individual. Please feel free to contact us to learn more about our current projects.

The Foundation hopes that the memorial giving program assists families, knowing that their kindness will help Ross Memorial continue to respond to local health care needs.

The RMH Foundation gratefully receives hundreds of memorial donations annually. These gifts help us support Ross Memorial Hospital through the purchase of new medical technology, and by improving our patient care facilities.

The Foundation offers its sincere thanks to all who have remembered a loved one through a memorial gift, and also to the area funeral homes who support us by receiving these gifts on our behalf.

Gifts to Celebrate an Occasion

Gifts to Celebrate an Occasion

A celebration gift to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation expresses to others how much you care. With a celebration gift, you can recognize a loved one’s birthday, anniversary or milestone event, and benefit the community through enhanced patient care at the Hospital, too!

How it works

Simply make a donation to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation, and let us know what you’re celebrating. We will send a special card to your loved one recognizing your contribution in his or her honour. We’ll also issue you a charitable tax receipt and mail it to you with our thanks. Your loved one’s name will also appear on our e-newsletter, our receipt inserts, and in the local newspaper.

Not a traditional occasion? Not a worry! Give us the details, and we’ll be happy to custom design your special card. With celebration giving, you can give the gift of good health. What could be more special than that?

“Imagine the Future” Capital Campaign tops 94% of goal!

Campaign raising funds to redevelop DI department and purchase MRI

Thanks to the outstanding generosity of local donors, the "Imagine the Future" capital campaign has reached 94% of its goal of $5.8 million.

"It's incredible, when you realize that we only launched the campaign publicly last November 15th, that we've come so far so fast," said Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation.

Several Staff around the new MRI Machine at the Ross Memorial Hospital

"It's truly a testament to the people in this community. They care about healthcare and when they're given the chance to help make it better - they take it. People recognized the impact that the new MRI and CT scanner would have on patients' diagnoses and treatments. They knew that this campaign had the potential to impact everyone... How often do you get the chance to give a gift that helps an entire community?"

"We're within sight of our goal. I know we can reach it," said John Fox, Chair of the Imagine the Future campaign. "So many people have become involved in this project already, from businesses and organizations, to individuals, churches and community groups... people who know that this diagnostic technology makes a difference when someone they love is sick or injured and needs a diagnosis."

The hospital must cover 100% of the cost of the equipment purchases and the necessary renovations to the building. The goal of the campaign is $5.8 million, of which $2 million is for the MRI, $1 million is for the new 128 slice CT scanner, and $2.8 million is for the redevelopment of the Diagnostic Imaging department.

There are many ways to make a gift to the Imagine the Future capital campaign. For more information, or to make a gift, download our pledge form here. Donors may also call the Foundation office at 705-328-6146 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Donors are "Lighting the Way"

The RMH Foundation invites local donors to help “light the way” this holiday season, as Christmas Appeal letters begin to arrive in mailboxes throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The Christmas Appeal is an annual initiative; it helps to raise funds for a particular need at the Ross Memorial Hospital. This year, donations made to the Appeal will help replace the hospital’s aging monitor system that supports patient care in the Emergency department, Intensive Care Unit and on the Medical and Surgical Units.

The monitoring system at RMH provides an extra set of eyes for doctors and nurses, allowing them to watch over their most critically ill patients whether they’re with the patient, or at the main nursing station. It’s in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That is why it’s important to replace the central system now; it needs upgrading due to its age and constant use.

The Foundation is pleased to have the hospital’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Maria Cescon, on board with this Appeal. In her letter, Dr. Cescon explains the vital role monitors play in the care of the most critically ill patients in the hospital.

The letter also tells the story of a patient, Derek Virtue, who knows first-hand the “life and death” importance of immediate action during a heart attack. When Derek learned that the Foundation’s Christmas Appeal would be raising funds to replace the aging central monitoring system, he was eager to help by sharing his story.

Each letter includes a special ornament, shaped like an envelope, upon which donors may write get well wishes to patients. These ornaments are sent back to the hospital with our donors’ gifts, and are hung on the Christmas trees in the main lobby for everyone to see and enjoy.

Erik Ellis, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, says the goal of the Christmas Appeal is to raise $140,000. “When you realize that the monitoring system has been helping the hospital team to watch patients’ vital signs every minute of every day since it was installed almost ten years ago, it’s easy to see why it’s a high priority need.”

At a time when people are remembering someone dear, they also thought of Ross Memorial Hospital and extended their support. With the support of local funeral homes, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation’s memorial giving program allows family and friends to commemorate the lives that have touched them.

The friends and neighbours of Charles Arkwright  are one such example.  They were able to recognize Charles and wrote: “Charlie was another one of our WWII vets who did service on the front lines of Europe for his country.  Thank you for being so kind to Charlie in his final hours”.

Similarly, the family of Barb Waller writes: “Our family can’t laud sufficient praise for the care given to Barb.  Many thanks to your entire staff involved in the excellent care given to all your patients”.

When you give a gift to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation in memory of a loved one, you may choose to direct your gift to one of our programs or campaigns that best reflects the wishes of the individual.

The Foundation assures that the memorial giving program assists families in knowing that their kindness will help Ross Memorial Hospital continue to respond to local health care needs.
