"Together, we have great chemistry"

RMH Foundation launched the Spring Appeal to raise funds to purchase a new chemistry analyzer on May 7, 2013.

Emergency physician, Dr. Dawn Reid estimates that between 80 and 90% of her patients require blood work. This important testing is done using the workhorse of the hospital’s laboratory: the chemistry analyzer.

It’s a tool that the healthcare team counts on 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The hospital needs to replace the 12-year-old chemistry analyzer, at a cost of $195,000. That’s why the RMH Foundation is hoping donors in the community will help with this important purchase — by making a gift to the spring appeal, which will see letters delivered to households throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Today, John Sherman, John Kozak and Penny Watson of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Lindsay Branch 67 joined Dr. Reid and Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation to launch the spring appeal.

Upon hearing of the importance of the hospital’s chemistry analyzer and its role in patient care, the Lindsay Legion wanted to help. Today, its members learned more about the analyzer from Chemistry Charge Technologist Sheran Lucas and presented the lead pledge for the appeal — a cheque for $10,000, raised through the Legion’s poppy campaign.

“We were so pleased when the members of Branch 67 expressed interest in the
appeal even before the letters had been printed,” said Coons. “Their involvement has been key to the success of many of our hospital projects. In fact, with this lead gift to the spring appeal, the Lindsay Branch has pushed its cumulative giving total to $106,601.85, earning it a “Founder” plaque on our donor recognition wall.”
