Across Ontario, an extraordinarily high number of people are seeking hospital care for influenza-like symptoms. At the Ross Memorial Hospital, the number of patients visiting the Emergency Department has increased drastically.
Today the Ross Memorial Hospital paid tribute to the 137 employees who have reached a milestone anniversary in their careers at the hospital, and the individuals and teams who were awarded for their dedication with the highest honour the hospital can bestow — the James Ross Award of Excellence.
The Ross Memorial Hospital is pleased to partner with the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and other community partners to host a free diabetes awareness event on World Diabetes Day.
World Diabetes Day marks the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who, along with Dr. Charles Best, co-discovered insulin in 1921, forever changing the lives of people with diabetes around the world. World Diabetes Day is a global awareness campaign introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world.
Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in the world. To help raise awareness of the signs and risks of diabetes in this community, RMH and the CDA will host an education opportunity at the Lindsay Square Mall on Monday, November 14th between 10am and 2pm. The event will feature separate stations where participants can speak to healthcare professionals, test their blood pressure and blood sugar level, and most importantly, learn how to prevent diabetes.
Participants in this event will provide information about:
Curves, the White Cane Club, Sages, Nordic Pole Walking, Remedies Rx for Med Checks, dialysis, the Family Health Team Walking Club, eye and foot care, Community Care CKL, RMH Cardiac Rehabilitation with a “Theraband” demonstration, sleep apnea, blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring, and the Diabetes Education program at RMH.
