RMH marks World Hand Hygiene Day with new elevator graphics

In 1847, Hungarian physician Ignaz Semmelweis discovered that the incidence of childbed (puerperal) fever could be greatly reduced if physicians washed their hands before delivering babies.

In 2015, good attention to hand hygiene is still considered the best way to protect hospital patients from the spread of germs.

On May 5th, World Hand Hygiene Day, the Ross Memorial Hospital is increasing the visibility of its ’clean your hands’ messaging with new elevator graphics.

On each of the four sets of elevators (on the main floor), door-sized signs remind patients, visitors, physicians, staff and volunteers that
“You will touch someone’s life today … do it with clean hands.”

Hands down, there’s no better way to help stop the spread of viruses and other germs than hand washing. Safety starts here.

Clean Care is Safer Care

Every year in Canada, more than 200,000 patients get infections while receiving healthcare services. Most healthcare-associated infections are preventable through good hand
hygiene — cleaning hands at the right times and in the right way.
