It was a bittersweet moment at the Ross Memorial Hospital today, as the Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Coronation Chapter 218 presented their members’ gift to the Imagine the Future capital campaign for the purchase of the MRI and CT scanner.
After 75 years, Chapter 218 is closing. This donation is one of the final acts of philanthropy its members will perform.

“We’re a small organization, so we’re very proud that we’re able to donate $12,200 to the hospital,” said Karen Williams, Worthy Matron. “Our numbers have declined over time and we’re closing this Chapter of the Order, so we’re dispersing our funds. This is money that was raised in Lindsay by people from Lindsay, so we wanted to donate it in a way that would help the whole community. The MRI and CT are used by the young and old alike, so we’re happy to know that our donation will benefit everyone.”
Karen Williams made the presentation with Gordon Henry, Worthy Patron, to John Fox, Chair of the Imagine the Future campaign cabinet, and Karen Scott, Donor Relations Coordinator with the RMH Foundation.
“We’re so touched that the Order has decided to make such a generous gift to the Imagine campaign,” said Scott. “We’ve appreciated their support over the years, and are saddened that their Chapter is closing, but knowing that their work will continue to have an impact here at the hospital, through improved patient care, helps a lot. Their work has really made a difference.”
This donation brings the Chapter’s cumulative giving to $30,902.00, earning them a “Benefactor” plaque on the Foundation’s donor wall.
Thanks to donors such as the Order of the Eastern Star, the Imagine the Future campaign is in its final phase, having reached 98% of its goal of $5.8 million. The new MRI and CT scanner are already operational and patients are being diagnosed and treated for injuries and illness faster than ever before.
